Questions About Our Walks
Everything you need to know about the Kilfane Glen and Mossy Bridge trails
Yes — both trails are designed with comfort in mind. The Mossy Bridge walk is particularly easy, staying mostly flat through the wooded gorge. The Kilfane Glen route has gentle slopes and plenty of places to rest. We've walked these routes many times with people in their 70s and 80s, and they tell us what surfaces work best and where the quiet spots are.
The Mossy Bridge walk takes about 45 minutes to an hour at a relaxed pace, covering roughly 2 km through the gorge. Kilfane Glen is longer — allow 2 to 2.5 hours if you want to explore the medieval garden ruins and see the waterfall without rushing.
The Mossy Bridge trail is mostly packed earth and moss — soft underfoot but can be damp. Kilfane Glen mixes woodland paths, some stone steps, and grassy areas. Waterproof walking shoes or sturdy boots are sensible, especially if it's been rainy. Neither walk needs mountaineering kit, just comfortable footwear you can grip the ground in.
Both trails are public routes you can walk any time — no booking needed. If you'd like someone who knows the history, geology, and the best spots to pause, our guides point out details you might otherwise miss. It's your choice.
Absolutely fine. Both routes have natural stopping points and good spots to rest. You won't be stranded — the trails loop back on themselves or have clear ways to shorten them. If you're with a guide, they're used to adjusting pace and can suggest an easier variation if needed.
Spring and autumn are lovely — the gorge has more water after rain, and the moss is bright green. Summer's dry and warm but can be muddy in shaded areas. Winter is quieter but the paths get slippery. Any time works, just check the weather and dress in layers.
